By effectively creating and strategically executing HR based programs and processes, I support business operations, initiatives and growth. As an HR professional with over 20 years experience, I have learned the importance of building relationships with employees and management of all levels. Relationships are key - especially in HR. You need to build rapport and let people know you are trusted, objective and fair no matter who you are dealing with or what the situation.

Throughout most of my career, I have been a true Generalist with experience across multiple areas of HR. However, over the past few years, I have focused more on payroll and benefits and am in the process of obtaining my payroll certification through the National Payroll Institute.

What led you to a career in HR?

To be honest, HR found me and I am so happy it did! I was initially working a career in operations - on my way to management - the more I learned about HR roles, responsibilities and functions, I knew this is where I needed to be.

If you could only do one thing in HR for the rest of your career, what would it be?

It would have to be Investigations! I love getting to the truth. Without knowing exactly what happened, it's hard to make lasting positive change. So much can be learned from the outcomes of investigations. It's also because I enjoy the legal side of HR. Training and development is another area I thoroughly enjoy (I know, I was only asked for one!)

Dogs or cats?

They are pretty equal in my opinion. Each brings their own unique benefits and challenges, however, my current fur baby is a rescue cat named Tez. But horses top both dogs and cats!

What led you to a career in HR?

After exploring career options in accounting, I found I enjoyed people more than numbers (although I really do enjoy a good spreadsheet). The balance of dealing with people and working on the non-people facing parts is perfect for me. I can coach someone on performance using the same passion I attack a payroll audit.

If you could only do one thing in HR for the rest of your career, what would it be?

I love system implementations! Building HR and payroll systems that work for businesses is extremely satisfying & rewarding.

Also, I am a bit of a nerd and really enjoy writing policies - an absence policy can be written very differently depending on the company, its culture and people. I love getting the tone & perspective right for each client.

Dogs or cats?

Have to go with cats or my cat Emmy may be upset with me.
